Thursday 29th October: Boat Survey Results: 14 Bottlenose Dolphins, 2 Seals and 1 Seal Pup

Weather conditions; sea state initially 1/2 becoming 2/3; visibility > 10km; medium swell; variable southerly wind

 

The first sighting of this trip was at 11:13 and was of two adult dolphins foraging off Carreg Draenog. Then, at 11:25, a juvenile female grey seal was seen hauled out on the rocks a little further on from Carreg Draenog. At 12:17 a seal pup (still white & fluffy) was sighted hauled out at Trwyn Crou. Heading back a third, adult, grey seal was seen in the waters off Cwmtydu at 12:33. At the end of the trip, at 12:54, four bottlenose dolphins were seen leaping and socialising in New Quay bay.

Weather conditions; sea state initially 2/3 becoming 4 briefly; visibility > 10km; medium swell; south easterly wind

 

At the start of the trip at 13:16 three or four dolphins were seen foraging off Carreg Draenog. At 13:58 the grey seal pup was sighted again hauled out at Trwyn Crou. The last sighting of the trip was near the end when three or four dolphins (three adults and a possible calf) were encountered travelling and foraging in the waters off Carreg Draenog.
