21/07/10: Boat survey results: 4 bottlenose dolphins, 1 harbour porpoise and 11 Atlantic grey seals

 

2hr start time: 10:04

 

Weather Conditions: sea state 1-3, visibility >10km, swell low

On this 2 hour boat trip a total of 2 bottlenose dolphins were seen. The sighting was of two adult bottlenose dolphins near to New Quay headland at 10:07 in the morning. They were foraging.

 

2hr start time: 12.06

 

Weather Conditions: sea state 1, visibility 1-10km, swell low

On this 2 hour boat trip a total of two bottlenose dolphins and six Atlantic grey seals were seen. The sighting was of one Atlantic grey seal offshore from Castell Bach at 12.34, in the water. Then at 12.40 another Atlantic grey seal was seen, hauled out. At 12.50 four Atlantic grey seals were seen in the water. All Atlantic grey seals seen were females. At 13.34 two bottlenose dolphins were seen off the New Quay headland, they were bow riding and foraging.

Weather Conditions: sea state 0-1, visibility >10km, swell low

At 17.14, a female grey seal was seen near Cymtydu in the water. An adult harbour porpoise was seen between Ynys Lochtyn and Trwyn Crou foraging. A further four female Atlantic grey seals were sighted in the water at various points between Ynys Lochtyn and Trwyn Crou.
