14/05/12: Bottlenose dolphins

5 bottlenose dolphins

At the start of the survey two dolphins were seen travelling north in front of the cardinal buoy, they travelled out of the area. Another dolphin was seen past the cardinal buoy foraging and leaping for the first half an hour and then was joined by another dolphin that was seen foraging, they then left the area. Towards the end of the survey another bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging between the fish factory and the harbour wall.

5 bottlenose dolphins

At the start of the survey there was one bottlenose dolphin seen foraging in front of the harbour wall, it then travelled in a easterly direction out of the area past the cardinal buoy. Two more bottlenose dolphins were seen foraging off the fish factory in the second quarter of the survey and two other bottlenose dolphins were leaping and foraging north of the cardinal buoy. They all then left the area.

One bottlenose dolphin

One dolphin was seen right at the start of the survey travelling east from the fish factory towards the cardinal buoy. Not seen again.

One bottlenose dolphin

One bottlenose dolphin was seen for the first quarter of the survey foraging east of the cardinal buoy. It then left the area.

08/05/12: Bottlenose dolphins and Atlantic grey seal

One Atlantic grey seal was observed in the first 15 minutes of the survey between the pier and
the fish factory

2 Bottlenose dolphins

During the last half hour of the survey two bottlenose dolphins were observed. They stayed at the same place during that time foraging for food.

Dolphins were seen throughout the whole survey. They stayed at the same spot foraging for food.
In the second half of the survey one Atlantic grey seal was seen near the coast.

2 Bottlenose dolphins

In the first 15 minutes of the survey two Bottlenose dolphins were observed travelling in westerly direction.
During the next 30 minutes they were seen mingling at the surface between the fish factory and the cardinal buoy. Then they left the survey area.

2 Bottlenose Dolphins were seen travelling in an easterly direction from the fish factory

06/05/12: Bottlenose Dolphins

2 Bottlenose dolphins were sighted and stayed around for the last hour and a half of the survey, one was travelling in a westerly direction whilst the other was thought to be foraging at depth.

At the start of the survey 1 Bottlenose dolphin was spotted foraging at depth by the Cardinal Buoy half an hour later it was joined by a 2nd Bottlenose dolphin who was also sighted foraging at depth by the Cardinal Buoy. The 2 dolphins stayed for the rest of the 2 hour survey foraging at depth before travelling in an easterly direction.

I bottlenose dolphin was seen foraging near the fish factory at depth and mingling on the surface further out in an easterly direction. Stayed for the whole duration of the two hour survey

Three bottlenose dolphins

Three bottlenose dolphins were sighted at the beginning of the survey foraging between the cardinal buoy and the fish factory, before travelling west past New Quay headland and out of sight.

02/05/2012: Bottlenose dolphins

 A dolphin was first observed foraging near the Cardinal Buoy, which was joined by another as 4-5 more were seen foraging and travelling near the headland, including a group of 2 with a calf. The dolphins foraged from the headland to the buoy for the rest of the survey.

 5 dolphins were observed foraging out in the bay. They moved to the Cardinal Buoy and foraged, and were joined by other dolphins. Dolphins were later seen foraging and displaying breaching behaviour near the headland, and a juvenile dolphin was observed close to the harbour wall.
