Friends
of Cardigan Bay was
first established in 1989 and was originally an arm of
Greenpeace. Its early work led to the international recognition
of Cardigan Bay as an important area for wintering sea
birds and cetacean’s
such as the Bottlenosed dolphin.
Over the ensuing years
the group has undertaken extensive survey work in the Bay
focusing on cetacean’s and
has included sea areas as far north as Bardsey island on
the Llyn peninsular and as far south as Ramsey island in
Pembrokeshire.
Currently the group is engaged in a regular offshore Bottlenose
survey in the Bay, as well as coastal bird and seal survey
including photo ID.
A new and very exciting project for
2004 and beyond is the exploration of the Sarnau or reefs
in Cardigan Bay. This will be involving a full and ongoing
diver benthic survey of the flora and flora at these sites,
something that has never really done before! Click here
