Two bottlenose dolphins and three Atlantic Grey Seals

Two different bottlenose dolphins were observed at different intervals during the first half of the survey. Three Atlantic Grey Seals were bobbing at the surface and surrounded by a flock of gulls during the second half for around 15 minutes.

Two bottlenose dolphins were seen at different times during the survey, both traveling west. The first bottlenose dolphin was also seen leaping from the water.

Three Bottlenose Dolphins

Bottlenose dolphins were observed for half an hour through the first half of the survey. These dolphins were bow riding while approaching/ following the boat, they were also seen leaping. There were no sightings during the second half of the survey.

During the first hour of the survey, one male Atlantic grey seal was seen in the water off the harbour wall. At the beginning of the second hour, a second Atlantic grey seal was sighted in the water to the right of the harbour wall near the reef.

One female grey seal was spotted in the water, between the fish factory and the harbour wall.

12 Bottlenose dolphins and one Atlantic grey seal

A seal was the first sighting of the day, spotted off the harbour wall, shortly followed by Dolphins which were present for the remainder of the survey and were seen mostly between the harbour wall and the fish factory. These individuals were leaping, travelling and foraging. There was also one group spotted with a calf.

Six bottlenose dolphins

The dolphins, one of whom was a calf, were seen from the beginning of the survey and stayed in the area for one hour, thought to be foraging at depth.  The group then travelled towards the fish factory and disappeared behind it.

Five bottlenose dolphins

Two dolphins were first spotted at 12:00 staying in the survey area probably foraging at depth; another group of three dolphins then joined them in the last fifteen minutes of the survey.

Ten bottlenose dolphins

The dolphins were seen throughout the survey mostly foraging at depth. Later in the survey they were seen leaping and tail slapping.

Four dolphins, of whom one calf, were seen throughout the survey milling around at the surface.

Dolphins were seen for the first 45 minutes of this survey, and were moving around the survey area quite a bit. Three were seen initially, in front of the harbour wall towards the fish factory, two of whom appeared to be foraging and one was travelling towards the East. These were then joined by two more, and they appeared to be mostly foraging before the harbour wall. Three of these, including a calf moved around to the end of the harbour wall, and two further out, where they were all foraging for food.

Dolphins were seen at the end of this survey near the harbour wall. Two dolphins, one of whom was a calf were travelling towards the West, and these were then seen foraging nearer the fish factory. They were later joined by two more dolphins, and were seen traveling North.

One Atlantic grey seal

At 10.15 one Atlantic grey seal was briefly spotted in the water just over the harbour wall. However the seal quickly left the area and no further sightings occurred.

Five bottlenose dolphins

At the beginning of the survey three bottlenose dolphins were spotted just of the Fish factory thought to be foraging at depth. After fifteen minutes the group of three dolphins started travelling west, surfacing regularly and foraging at the surface of the water. The three dolphins remained in the area from the rest of the survey being joined by a fourth and fifth dolphin at 12.15 and 12.45 respectively. The group remained foraging around the harbour wall, surfacing irregularly and displaying acrobatic leaps and tail slaps.
